Michael Serrano, PhD, LCSW, is a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports. Prior to joining Wurzweiler, he had over 15 years of experience overseeing, supervising, designing, and implementing public health programs across New York City. 

Dr. Serrano has worked with children, adolescents, and adults, specializing in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use disorders. Dr. Serrano has taught the core courses for the Joint MSW/CASAC Program in addition to other clinical classes across the MSW curriculum. He will now oversee all course content related to CASAC, working collaboratively with all the instructors in the program. 

Dr. Serrano's research interests are in clinical social work practice with a focus on the impact of racism on substance use disorders and treatment completion. Dr. Serrano is an alumnus of the Council on Social Work Education's Minority Fellowship Program. He is also on the review board for the Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions.
